Reeemix.com - The show must go on!
Dear remixers,
sorry for not updating the site for one whole month. It’s not that there wouldn’t be enough contests to post. It’s just that I don’t find the time to gather most of the information on my own, anymore.
However, when I look at the site’s statistics I see between 200-300 remixers stopping by in search of new remix contests every single day! Wow. Thus I thought about how great it would be if everyone could contribute to reeemix.com. Together we could make this become the best resource for remix contests worldwide!
I think of a site similar to wikipedia, with one article per contest. Wouldn’t it be awesome if anybody could add or correct information, no need to register? Together we could manage what I just couldn’t do alone. We could gather every single piece of information about any contest.
So what do you think?
Would you enjoy contributing to the new reeemix.com?
Please comment or rate this post!
Thanks, Alex

Hi Bernd. I think that one of the good things about reeemix.com is that it supports newcomers and gives them a platform. However, I understand your point. You like to remix well-known artists and feel that it’s hard to find them among all the newcomers. On a wiki we could make a category for established acts so that you could find such contests very easily. What do you think?
(Sorry for answering in English. But only 20% of the visitors understand German and I want to keep the discussion open. You’re welcome to answer in German, though. I’ll translate your thoughts then.)

A wiki would be great, but something where you still can be aware of the new contests going on via some RSS feed.
June 14th, 2008 at 14:53
A wiki is one solution, but I think I have a better suggestion… it’s something I’d like to discuss with you first directly though… how can I contact you, or can you email me at the address I leave with my comment?

Good idea Alex, i know i for one will do whatever i can to keep the place up to date as best i can. I was a bit sad when you haven’t updated the place in over a month though i kept checking back everyday with a glimmer of hope! lol I think this is a great idea and i am sure other people who visit this site such as myself would also contribute to keeping this place fresh with remix competitions/contests!
Heres to reeemix.com!

excelent ideeeeeeeea!
let’s make reeemix.com a big site… go go go!
June 15th, 2008 at 11:15
Thx all! @ToToM: Good point! RSS feeds are possible within a wiki!
June 15th, 2008 at 20:23
Great idea, a wiki would definitely be a good way to keep these posts accurate and up to date.
RSS feed (of new constests) is a must though.

reeemix.com is the best site I know of to find remix competitions. I check it several times each week. It would be a shame to see it vanish… How about teaming up with big music-forum sites to get more visitors here? The domain is screaming for attention, and it could become something really big. The biggest place for remix-competitions on the web. That would be something alright

Hi Aleksander, thx for your appreciation! Maybe you could post a link to this site on some Norwegian forums? We only have very few visitors from Norge! I’ll think about ther cooperation thing, too. Thanks a lot! Also I promise to do everything to stay your no. 1 site for remix contests! BTW, cool music on your website! What kind of string pad did you use for the intro on “multimedia tracks”? It’s just massive… Is that Spectrasonics Atmosphere or a Virus synth? Sounds awesome, nice chords. I always love to hear music made by reemix.com visitors!
Would you contribute to a wiki?

I LOVE this site. I think a more user-generated site would be great but someone would have to weed through the garbage that people might post, and we need to watch out for bots. This site just can’t go away!! And an RSS feed would be great…I’m gonna post it on my site. Thanks for all your hard work. I love the design of your site as well.
June 26th, 2008 at 12:27
Oh yes…and no need to register would be awesome! I’m so sick of having usernames and passwords for so many sites…it gets tedious.
June 26th, 2008 at 12:29
Sorry…ONE more post! How about a part of the site where users could post links to their own remix files, not necessarily contests though? I have a song I did that needs remixing, and I wanna put it out there just for fun so people can grab the remix pack and do what they want with it.
June 26th, 2008 at 12:38
just like to add that i missed the site while it wasn’t being updated, it’s a good habit starting a new remix every week, if it (re)continues, in whatever way, i’ll be happy.

Thx for the feedback and suggestions.
Please keep posting your ideas!
I’m currently working on the new version.
Please stay tuned!

lookin forward to the new site!
when are you going to finish the new version?
June 29th, 2008 at 17:20
Hi JR, there’s no deadline yet and it might take a couple of months even. I think about an interim solution, though.

Hi Alex,
what about some Content Management System? It should be much quicker, at least for interim solution.
Good luck!

So when something new happens here …..!?
Some months ago U made all the Producers / Remixers in various Communities curious about that Site coming and now just a half year later nothing happens no more.
Even tho you might got a new Job it’s definitely NOT THAT hard to keep a Site like this up to date…!
I hope this post will not be deleted and u can stand some negative Critic.

JR:
This blog is running on “Wordpress”, which is a content management system, already. However, I’m working on a new content management system now which will be suited to the special needs of this site. As I said I want to make reeemix.com a community project. So your suggestion was absolutely right. And a new CMS is on its way!
Pff:
Thx for your comment, too. I hope you at least liked the site for the last 6 months and enjoyed the 225 contests that I posted during this time. Unlike what you say it wasn’t always easy to gather all the information on deadlines, prizes and additional issues. And while I repeatedly asked others to help me, only very few visitors supported me. Thanks to those great folks!
Unlike you say I really can’t update the site at the moment. I could of course post the 5 major contests each month - but what use would that be? Thus I decided to rather improve the system and make the site even BETTER instead of letting it die slowly.
As I put a lot of effort into the improvements I really can’t understand the destructive tone of your comment…

Thx to those who sent in their ideas via email instead of commenting here! I appreciate your support so much!
I’ll keep you updated!

Sounds like a great idea to me!
July 8th, 2008 at 07:01
I think that overall this is a good idea, but you would need to have people register, otherwise there will be “terrorism” on the page by small people who don’t like certain bands, etc.
I support the idea of having smaller artists alongside large ones. It would be productive. . . being a smaller artist myself I can see the sense in it.
July 8th, 2008 at 18:01
while everyone seems to know about current contests around - I don’t
so where can I feed my needs until the site’s somehow recovered to cover all the contests out there?
July 9th, 2008 at 07:27
Hi TG, google blogsearch is quite a good resource. An interim solution for reeemix.com is on its way, though. Please come back in about a week. Thankyou!
